Arvo Pärt at 90 Teen Lecture

Friday, August 21, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the University of St. Thomas.

Arvo Pärt is the most performed living composer in the world, and in 2026 the musical world is celebrating his 90th birthday. Before Cor Mundi's concert honoring the milestone, high school students are invited to a preparatory lecture exploring the man and the music: his early life in Soviet-occupied Estonia, the eight years of creative silence that ended with his conversion and the birth of his "tintinnabuli" style in 1976, and how a composer working under an atheist regime came to write some of the most beloved sacred music of our time.

This lecture is designed for students ages 14 to 18 and pairs with CHECH's other arts opportunities this year to help families build a Fine Arts credit for high school transcripts.

Students then attend Cor Mundi's Sunday matinee performance on August 30 at St. Philip Presbyterian Church to hear the music live. 

Concert tickets are discounted to $20 for registered students and their family members, purchased separately through Cor Mundi. A coupon code will be emailed to registrants closer to the concert date.
